NOTHING BUT NASCAR HERE! My first NASCAR Cup experience was the Richmond fall race in 1999. I've been a NASCAR and Tony Stewart fan since. Here's a look at him and NASCAR through a different set of eyes. Best viewed with Spread Firefox Affiliate Button

Let the drivers be the drivers

If I was to pull into another lane and run someone off the road, I doubt I could tell the cop “well, I didn’t see him there; my passenger (spotter) didn’t say anyone was over there”. On the same plane, if I was to rear end someone on the highway, I can’t imagine telling the police officer “he must have checked up (slowed down) because of something in front of him, just one of those traffic things.” These are situations where me, average driver, seems to have more responsibility than the NASCAR drivers who make millions behind the wheel. Why is that? Why isn’t the basic driving skill you and I posses not exercised by the world’s greatest drivers. I say get rid of the spotters and put mandatory rear view mirrors on the doors. This would make the driver responsible for the actions behind the wheel. What a concept! If your such a good driver, why can’t you make these basic driving decisions that everyday drivers make hundreds of times a day? Right behind that; add brake lights to all of the cars in the center of the back window. No more will you hear the lame excuses from drivers saying “I didn’t see them slowing down”. The great TV coverage will show exactly what went on. This should also make NASCAR safer, as drivers who don’t see or hear of the yellow will surely see the sea of brake lights in front of them. I think these two additions to the cars will solve a lot of the controversy before it starts, and point the finger to the real culprit almost immediately. Or is that what NASCAR really wants? I want answers, and I want them now. But I’m sure NASCAR loves the week long press that they get from incidents that shouldn’t have happened in the first place, and the drivers forgot before they went to bed Sunday night.
